New Dow Corning® EA-4600LV HM RTV Translucent Adhesive Delivers Fast Assembly and Improved Productivity for Smart Devices


Dow Corning, a global leader in silicones, silicon-based technology and innovation and a wholly owned subsidiary of The Dow Chemical Company, introduced new SpacerDow Corning® EA-4600LV HM RTV Translucent Adhesive. The latest addition to the company’s broad and growing portfolio of hot melt, room-temperature vulcanizate (RTV) adhesives, the new product is uniquely formulated to dispense easily and achieve instant green strength, allowing fast assembly of mobile and computer components immediately after its application.

“Demand for the next-generation of smart phones shows no sign of slowing, and consumers are fueling rapid growth in mobile accessories, wearable devices and other digital gear,” said Jayden Cho, global marketing coordinator for Communication & Consumer at Dow Corning. “Our new, easily dispensed adhesive targets this emerging landscape by helping to enhance productivity, expand design flexibility and deliver more reliable products in the highly competitive global market for these devices.”

Dispensed as a low viscosity liquid with standard hot melt dispensers – including jet dispensing applicators – Dow Corning’s innovative new material offers primerless adhesion to most common substrates, including plastics, metals and silicone elastomers. It achieves green strength within minutes to allow assembly operations to continue with minimal interruption. As it cools, Dow Corning® EA-4600LV Adhesive reacts to ambient moisture to convert into a viscoelastic material with enhanced mechanical properties.

This new adhesive can be applied neatly as a liquid melt in very thin, <0.5-mm-wide, bonding lines. Within 24 hours after application, it may be softened at elevated temperatures to allow easy rework of assembled components, but the silicone will revert to its typical properties after cooling.

Dow Corning’s innovative new hot melt offers extended service temperatures from -40°C to 150°C, and offers excellent resistance to chemicals, moisture and dust to help ensure greater product reliability and performance. The innate flexibility of silicone materials Like Dow Corning® EA-4600LV Adhesive also helps to absorb impact energy to enhance shock and impact resistance.

Dow Corning® EA-4600LV HM RTV Translucent Adhesive is a solventless, one-component, moisture-cure silicone material that offers longer open time and pot life, as well as lower odor and lower levels of volatility compared to many conventional adhesives. It is available from Dow Corning distributors worldwide for the design of next generation mobile devices, wearables and digital products.
