Dow Corning Speaker to Discuss at PCIM Europe Conference How Silicones Are Improving Thermal Management of Power Electronics Assemblies

Thomas Seldrum, an associate application engineering specialist for Dow Corning, will present a poster during next week’s PCIM Europe Conference at the Exhibition Center in Nuremburg, Germany. Titled “Silicone-based enablers for thermal management in power electronics” Seldrum’s session is scheduled to run, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16, during the conference’s Cooling System section.

Co-authored by Marin Demulier and Vincent Delsuc, the poster explores how thermally conductive silicone-based encapsulants, gap fillers and adhesives are offering unique improvements to the processability, performance and reliability of next-generation power electronic components. The topic of thermal management is particularly important as the power electronics industry focuses on new semiconductor materials able to deliver higher power densities, and on the ever-shrinking size of components that allow OEMs to pack them more densely into today’s integrated systems.

Seldrum will be available throughout the conference to meet with media and answer questions. He joined Dow Corning in 2011 as an application engineer, bringing the technical expertise needed to develop the silicon carbide business in Europe. Since then, his responsibilities have extended to microelectronics and power electronics applications where silicones are used as protective and assembly materials. His role was further expanded recently to support Dow Corning’s Automotive Electronics team, in the development of innovative technologies for next-generation electronic modules. Seldrum holds a PhD in Solid State Physics from the University of Namur, Belgium.
