Mold Release

Release Molded Parts Easily

Easy, clean release from the mold is critical to high part quality, high productivity and scrap avoidance. It also expands design freedom: better mold release enables complex, thin parts with long flow lines.

Dow Corning's advanced silicone additives migrate to the surface during injection molding, forming a smooth interface that minimizes attraction between the material and the tool. Thanks to low surface tension, our silicones promote a clean release. They also improve flow performance. With this technology, even the most intricate or thinnest parts can be de-molded with their surface finishes and fine details intact.

Our high-performance additive solutions offer advantages over spray-on mold release agents, which are time-consuming to apply, and internal waxes, which can bloom on the part's surface, causing tackiness. Compared to PTFE, Dow Corning additives deliver high performance at much lower loadings (2% to 8%).

Solving Your Processing Challenges

Dow Corning silicone-based additives facilitate mold release so parts can be processed quickly and with a high level of quality and consistency. Other benefits are:

  • Higher throughput
  • Less waste
  • Time savings by avoiding mold spraying
  • Cost-effectiveness
